I liked reading some modern English noir for a change I ve read books like Brighton Rock but the England there is a very foreign place America produces an abundance of the stuff, some bad some supreme This was unashamedly English, and I liked it for that.I liked it for a lot too The stories have the feel of gritty realism, laced with a deep sardonic humour This is Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels crime, fast paced, knowing geezers, neat one liners I wouldn t touch him with Roman Polanski, or [...]

Paul D Brazill has become a very popular guy this summer Today, Weds August 17th I am going to be handing my blog over to the man s work to highlight it He has penned the Drunk on the Moon series that has just been on fire since the first installment and has not let up at all Now he has put out a little something he calls Brit Grit , a group of short stories Both words in the title are very appropriate The wording has a decidedly British feel and it does contain that moxie, steel and mojo that t [...]

Brit Grit is a wonderful collection of short stories from emerging writer Paul D Brazill Each story in infused with a sense of dark humour that makes them endearing and gripping. All of these tales are set in some of the grimier parts of British towns and cities, highlighting some of the grittier elements of society Full of not just Brit slang and emotive accents but references to hollywood films that highlights the truth about how tangled UK and US cultures have become in Britain You get a genui [...]

This collection of stories is not a happy one In fact it is about as far away from happy as it is possible to get Even for a collection of noir stories this is pretty grim The is no glamour in crime or life in general Everybody has problems and most of them end up being terminal or at best highly self destructive Even alcoholism that usual stalwart of good cheer in noir stories brings pain than joy for the characters in these stories. The one thing that isn t gloomy is the quality of the writing [...]

Pearls start out as grit as you probably know Paul D delivers a whole string of pearls in this collection It s rumoured he coined the phrase Brit Grit and he s certainly one of it s major players The stories are varied, so there s no way you ll feel anything but pleased with your journey The scenes are set very strongly and the characters are all going to make an impression on the readers.5 stars is what you give when you re highly recommending a book this one has earned every one of them.

Spinetingler award nominee Paul D Brazill is a prolific writer and blogger His short stories have appeared in a wide variety of print and online publications including the prestigious Mammoth Book of Best British Crime where he keeps company with such names as Ian Rankin, Nigel Bird, Ray Banks, Nick Quantrill, Sheila Quigley and Allan Guthrie.Brit Grit is a collection of his short stories from the various publications This download represents great value giving you nine hard hitting stories for [...]

Quality stuff here Brazill, Banks, and Guthrie are my favorite writers in short story GRIT genre Direct and to the point, and often hilarious Recommended for lovers of short, gritty, and violent fiction.

I seem to be in a minority but I found it cliched and hackneyed throughout, it gained a solitary star for being, thankfully, short

Next up, after The Darke Affair in the Drunk On The Moon series by Paul Brazil and a whole universe of terrific writers.
