I read this book a few years ago It is one of the most feel good books The book is so beautifully mesmerizing, and a perfect read on a hot Indian summer afternoon with a cold glass of lemonade, nimbu paani.

Quite possibly the best book I ve ever read A collection of short essays on the fleeting pleasures of life, this book makes me slow down and enjoy and it makes me want to write So I say again, this is quite possibly the best book I ve ever read.

Various and simple stories about daily life.I would recommend it if you have lived in France before anyone should read but it will be touching if you actually understand the context of some stories

Imevahva idee kogumik l hijutte v ikestest m nusatest hetkedest, millega ks keskmine prantslane kindlasti kokku puutunud on M ne loo puhul tekkis aga tunne, et rohkem on tegeldud uhkete ja luuleliste s nade leidmisega, selle asemel et puhtamalt kirjeldada emotsioone, mis on jutu aluseks.

Gently nostalgic, sometimes poetical look at life s little pleasures shelling peas, picking blackberries, phoning from a call box, the mobile library, the Tour de France

THIS IS A REVIEW OF DEAD WAKE I HAVE NO IDEA WHY IT IS SHOWING THE COVER AND TITLE FOR LA PREMIEREAn excellent read Thanks to my dear friend Sonya for lending me her Advance Reader s Edition This is one of those yes, I know it s very late and I know I need to go to bed but I can t stop reading type books Even though all educated people know the outcome, the writer s style keeps one s interest engaged the entire time The NYT review mentioned something about a slight dragging in the middle of the [...]

La Premi re Gorg e de Biere, translated variously as The Small Pleasures of Life or We Could Almost Eat Outside, actually means the first sip of beer and it was the choice of Emma from Book Around the Corner for my 2013 Humbook It consists of r cits, brief meditations on the simple pleasures of life And although I could have bought it in English for my Kindle, I chose to buy the French edition so that I could resurrect my school French in preparation for my next trip, oh hopefully in 2015 Fishpo [...]

This book consists of mini chapters, each describing life s tiny pleasures Out of 34 things presented, my personal choice would have been three But still, it was interesting to see what the author thought the things that counted in life were A lot of them were cultural watching Tour de France, playing the petanque, getting Turkish delight at the Arab corner store but some of them were just plain weird If you think riding old trains is enjoyable, you ve obviously never ridden Croatian Railways tr [...]

Excellent J ai particuli rement appr ci On pourrait presque manger dehors , invit par surprise et Aller aux m res tous trois reminiscents du bon temps pass , et l on esp re, encore venir Je recommende chaudement.

Although the dust jacket for What Is Not Yours Is Not Yours claims that its short stories are thematically linked by locks and keys, I don t find that to be a useful description Key words I d use include modern fairytale, stories in stories, surrealism, humor If there s a unifying theme it s that of identity and knowing who you are and your place in the world.I ve read a few of Oyeyemi s novels, and her short stories read similarly Her prose is deceptively light and enchantingly graceful, with c [...]

This short book is Delerm s tribute to small pleasures Some of them helping shell peas I ve experienced many I have not Some seem now to be pleasures of times past calling from a public phone booth , while others seem like they must be very French riding on an old train Some of his pleasures seem to be pain than pleasure getting your espadrilles wet , but Delerm finds a sweet spot in even those awful moments Read this to discover the sensual pleasures in everyday moments whether they are weekly [...]

This is a charming little book written by a French author and translated into English It is made up of a number of short pieces about the everyday delights life has to offer In each chapter, the author contemplates the seemingly ordinary experiences that add joy to life, whether it be the first sip of beer, the snowstorm inside a paperweight or the smell of apples Some of the entries relate specifically to French culture, but the content is easily translatable to other individual cultural specif [...]
