Follow your heart but take your brain with you For starters I wasn t aware that Pilate had a daughter but I guess that was beside the point Right from the beginning I wanted to roll my eyes over this novel It was unrealistically written, almost as if a modern girl got plunked into an ancient setting but hadn t adapted to their way of thinking.Anyway, Claudia has a crush on a Jewish Zealot, Judah, who was supposed to kill her Apparently Judah was attracted to her too Claudia s father arranged for [...]

Since we don t know enough about Pontius Pilate to know if he had any kids or not, for the sake of historical fiction I m willing to go with the flow that he had a teenage daughter that of course falls in love with a Jewish guy she meets in Palestine. But the author didn t seem to know much about life in Ancient Rome 1st Century Israel and that showed For instance using Pilate as a last name isn t very accurate, based on my understanding of the era and Roman traditions for naming and family names [...]

Claudia Lucretia, the daughter of Pontius Pilate has led a very sheltered life, but she longs for something Not content with just the frivolities, she dives into educating herself As they make their way to their new home, she is fixing to find that the world is not always as safe as she thought it was, and that even she can become prey to some men who would see her father fail As they stay with the Herod s, the royal family in Judea, Claudia has a young guard named Judah, whom she finds very in [...]

This is an interesting book, set in biblical Judea, it is not a time or place I have read historical fiction set before I know the basics of the bible story, It is difficult to grow up in Scotland without having a fair idea of who Pontius Pilate is There is a lot I like about this book The plot is great, it is a romance of course, but a very unconventional one Pilate s daughter, Claudia, is a sensitive, educated, strong willed young girl, not much relishing the prospect of an arranged marriage t [...]

The first part of this story was probably the best, with the parts about the Pilate family and their move to Judea, and Claudia s Pilate s daughter s attempts to educate herself After the first few chapters, however, I felt it degenerated to the level of a TV or modern Hollywood Biblical drama In a way, it s one of those books that seems to have a bit of an identity crisis The character s outlook was way too modern for it to feel truly historical, and there were far too many sex scenes for it to [...]

Falling in love can often be painful, and sometimes it s wildly inappropriate Like, for example, the daughter of the Roman Governor of Judea and a Jewish Zealot Almost as bad, a Roman Tribune engaged to the Governor s daughter and a slave girl It would be hard enough to work out these problems of the heart if that were all that was happening But all this takes place in a particularly turbulent period of history Events that will change the course of history are happening, and the young lovers wil [...]

Fiona Veitch Smith skilfully weaves the day to day lives and the desires, hopes and longings of certain minor characters from the New Testament narrative, and links them into the most famous story on earth the final days of Jesus s ministry and the dramatic events of the Passion I was captivated by the tale of Claudia and her clandestine lover, a Jewish Zealot, and the hopes and plans of her slave Nebela who loves the Roman Tribune Claudia is being forced to marry and Nebela s soothsayer mother [...]

Pilate s Daughter was slow to capture my interest but as the book moved forward the story became a bit interesting The main female character, Claudia Lucretia, is created by the imagination of the author as well as the male character Judah ben Hillel I won t give the total plot away but Hillel was a key participant in the demise of Jesus.Review written after downloading a galley from NetGalley.
