DNFConservative estimate, I ve picked up and put down this book probably six times But I m calling it now I can t do it I thought I could but I can t It s like I want to like this author so badly, but I think it s time I come to grips with the fact that her and I aren t suited.Gouveia has a way with words There s no doubt about that She uses them like a paint brush to summon imagery for her narrative Case in point As he let out an animal cry, the water caressed the creamy dunes of his muscular b [...]

A touching and thought provoking story I had never heard of the author, but the cover, a sexy shirtless man holding a football and a butterfly settled on the ball had me digging for the synopsis And then I read he attracts the attention of two other quarterbacks who ve been rivals since high school Mal Ryan of the Philadelphia Quakers and Tam Tarquin of the San Francisco Miners Quinn begins a volatile relationship with the narcissistic Mal and a loving one with the open hearted Tam, keeping eac [...]

So damn bad If I ever get past the rage I feel for stereotyping bullshit, horribly abusive characters, and overwritten nonsensical words, I might write a review ARC provided by publisher via Netgalley.

2.5 stars and this is super rare for me If the way to judge a book good is how many emotions it evokes, then this is a good book However let s be clear This story is violent, brutal, and cold. The story takes a long time to get started, about a hundred pages of nothing The first half reads like an unending rape scene, with humiliation and emotional torture as side dishes The rest of the book is a confused mess of people and things, scenes without any real significance, people who mean nothing to [...]

The Penalty for Holding is a hot mess It started out good, with Quinn s backstory of growing up in Indonesia to a mother and stepfather who don t love him Then him moving to the US with his Aunt, then him being drafted into the NFL, but yet not being played for whatever reason his obnoxious, narrow minded coach holds for disliking Quinn But, it s when Quinn meets Mal and Tam, his soon to be lovers, that the entire story falls apart I can t even tell you how many times I put down this book, swear [...]

Using the GR rating rubric a 2 star rating means a story was ok and I didn t find this story to be even that I was so distressed at the flow of the story that I looked back to research the author The author clearly is an educated and literate individual but the story was all over the place.

I didn t connect with any of the characters, the story did not unfold naturally at all but I got through it quick and easy and at first was really interesting but then kind of fell apart Quinn Novak becomes the quarterback after an injury befolds the previous one, attracting the attention of two quarterbacks on other teams, Mal Ryan, a narcissatic and violent man and Tam Tarquin, sweet and open hearted At first Mal just seems like a guy to hook up with until he meets Tam and starts to see him Th [...]

I received this for review and I ll be doing a longer review on my blog soon In simple terms, I really did not like this one I almost DNFed but curiosity and the fact that it s a review book won out It could have been a really good look at domestic violence in m m fiction among other plot points but it just didn t work I felt like the book jumped too much and it felt like aspects of the story were never really addressed or concluded.

4 5An eARC of this book was given to me in exchange for an honest reviewFirstly, this is not a sequel to Water Music It is an independent novel You don t HAVE to read Water Music But there are some parts in The Penalty for Holding that can be a spoiler to the first book in the series mentions of characters and what became of them. So, if you want to understand some things that happen in this book, you better understand the hierarchical position that Agamemnon and Achilles hold, who they are and t [...]

I m afraid this did not work for me, at all From the beginning I felt lost Lost in a world of sports with a character voice I didn t enjoy listening to I tried, I really did But then I just wasn t invested and it and thought it not fair to actually rate and review since I did not finish the book.Still, I appreciate the time and love the author put into creating this book and its characters I m certain there are the right readers this book out there many probably So, don t let my review hold you [...]

Copy from net galleyIm not sure how to explain how I felt with this book There were times that I wanted to dive into the story and beat the crap out of some of the characters, then there was times that I skimmed pages to get past certain sections The story itself was good, it really was, but there was a lot of backstoryke a lot I know that back story is always great, that it builds the story, but I just felt there could have been less and the story would still have worked Also I felt that some o [...]
