Ren Has Two Last Names, is a wonderfully written bilingual book that is sure to bring smiles It is sometimes hard to preserve culture in a crazy fast paced world, and this book shows how a young boy does just that Author Ren Colato Lainez writes this book, based off of his own life On the first day in his new school, Ren s teacher gives everyone a nametag with their first and last names Rene has two last names, like many Salvadorans, but the teacher drops his second one Rene takes the situation [...]

Rene Has Two Last Names is one of my favorite books because it shows how a student teaches his classmates about his family and why he has two last names The book is about a boy, Rene, who has two last names and the teacher takes off one of his last names He feels like part of his family is missing Rene makes a family tree and tells the class about his grandparents and how his name represents both sides of the family and without one, he is not whole I think that this topic is very important to di [...]

Absolutely brilliant If you ve ever thought it was strange weird that people hyphenate their last names, read this beautiful story Highly recommended for Latina o kids.

I loved this book for three main reasons, the illustrations, addresses bullying and addresses Xenophobia, and the story has a problem and resolution to Rene s frustration The illustrations did not stereotype the roles of Latinx in the family For example, the women were not put to work in the kitchen and the women actually were breadwinners as well when we see Rene and his parents The mom in the story was wearing a suit like a professional woman would I will say that the maracas were something ad [...]

This is a bilingual book about the author s journey after moving to America from El Salvador, where it is customary to keep the last name of both your mother and father The book has adorable illustrations and would be one I d use for bilingual Spanish students or for introducing a family tree project.LG, BL 3.1, AR 133833

This was really sweet I had to practice reading the Spanish for bilingual storytime later this month It s long but our program is for elementary students so it should be fine We can teach them some Spanish as we go.

Great children s book explaining why oftentimes latinx people have two last names It helped my girls understand why my husband has two.

This narrative tells the story of the struggle of keeping part of your cultural believes intact The narrator, Rene, tells the story of the significance that using both his last names hold for him Rene does not feel complete simply using one last name, after all He can tell stories like his Abuelo Julio and enjoys music like his Abuela Angela His classmates do not understand the use of two last names ex That s a long dinosaur name , so Rene uses a class project to help teach them what it means As [...]

Rene Has Two Last Names is a delightfully wonderful bilingual book that is sure to bring both smiles and joy to the faces of many children, as well as their parents In a crazy and fast paced world, such as the one that we live in, often our family heritage is either forgotten or stored away deep in our mind s recesses That is not the case with young Rene who celebrates both sides of his family by using both of his last names However, in school the teacher insists on calling Rene with only one of [...]

This book is a very cute perspective on why some children have two last names.Rene has two last names, but everyone in her class, including the teacher, drop her second last name Rene doesn t feel complete and wants her class to understand the importance of both of her last names Luckily one of her class projects is to make a family tree Rene sees this as a perfect time to fill the class in on her culture and her extremely long name This is a great way to open children up to other cultures I wou [...]

Genre Fantasy. This book is a must I enjoyed reading it because I can relate to Ren , the main character, all the issues he faced and story behind the author With this said, this book is bilingual written in both English and Spanish it has a wonderful ending The illustrations are amazing as well This book is about a child that has two last names and faces a bit of a conflict when his teacher removes one of his last names He felt incomplete without having both last names, he realized his name was [...]

This story is a true story of a young boy who goes to school and is called by only one of his last names At home is used to being called by both of his grandparents names but at school the teacher only calls him by one After a project about family trees Ren is able to demonstrate to his class how he belongs to both families and should be able to go by both of his last names In this book, the author retells his own story of his experiences upon moving to America from El Salvador The author teache [...]

Rene Colato Lainez is the child s full name honoring BOTH sides of his family which is a typical custom in his home country, El Salvador On his first day in the American classroom, he notices that the teacher has only written one last name He thought the teacher may have run out of ink so he completes his full name by adding the second part His classmates do not understand why he has two last names but with cultural exploration, the class and teacher gain insight With bilingual text and fun, car [...]

Rene Colato looked incomplete It was like a hamburger without the meat A young Salvadorian boy tells us why both of this last names are important to him in this adorable story He talks about how incomplete his name feels when only one last name is used and how it makes him feel like he is missing a part of himself This great story shows the value that a Latino family puts on their names and how last names are used to link us to our families This bilingual book uses great language that is easy to [...]

This is a wonderful, engaging, clever book about a little boy with two last names He spends the book telling his teacher and classmates about why he has two last names and the people in his family that they celebrate It is bilingual, with the story written in both English and Spanish It is a wonderful story to share with children of all ages.

This has quickly become one of my favorite books I disliked my own name for a very long time because it was longer than all my friends growing up To this day, I only go by my dad s last name because it was as if I was embarrassed of my mom s last name This book does an EXCELLENT job of explaining the importance of being proud of both of your last names because they help make you who you are.

Good book for those that are growing up biculturally or have immigrated here from a latin country where having both last names is common Many don t understand why we have or use both last names, and it is nice that there is a book for kids to help explain why keeping both last names means so much to them.

This is another great read aloud for the classroom So many Americans can be confused by the two last names many Latinos useis helps explain where the two names come from and why they are important I can t wait to read this and do a family tree study in the classroom inspired by this book

This is a wonderful book about a boy who has two last names from both sides of his family In school, the teacher only calls him by one last name, so he creates a family tree to show how each last name plays an important role in his name This is a great book on valuing names and heritage.

This book is about a boy who has two last names representing both sides of his family In school, the teacher only calls him by one last name, so he creates a family tree to show how each last name plays an important role in his name This book is great for teaching about culture and heritage

This would be an important book for teachers to read, so they avoid hurting the feelings of any students they have from another culture.

One of the better bilingual picture books that I ve seen lately I liked the story and illustrations, and each page had a reasonable amount of text.
