This book was probably ridiculously easy to put together and contains almost zero information, but it s gorgeous all the same.

You just want to smack the shit out of this author for this horrid little misfire I am guessing the pitch to the publishers of this book went someting like, Well, I ve got this scanner and a pile of old books from the flea market He claims to be an advocate for the printed page, and if this is the best he can do then he has failed in every possible way His own impact on publishing based on this fail book is the equivalent of stabbing a paperback with a knife until only bits of confetti remain.Th [...]

The title caught my attention As a librarian I am interested in all types of books As an art lover the covers of books have always drawn my attention As a reader, I tend to drift to popular mass market paperbacks rather than classic literature. The book has a very detailed history for publishing in general and the business of mass market paperbacks specifically I scanned the text for interesting points but spent most of my time with the book looking at the large array of paperback cover reproduct [...]

This is a nice book on the art of paperbacks The emphasis is on showing nicely printed cover examples with short background on the history of paperbacks with insight on how the cover art evolved I might of selected different covers to show but this is a nice addition to my library of books on book, magazine and paperback cover art Mr Brower also includes a short bio paragraphs for most of the artist illustrators mentioned in the book One error to point out, in the section on western covers, ther [...]

Ostensibly Breathless Homicidal Slime Mutants is a heavily illustrated history of the paperback novel I might have given it four or five stars if not for the stupid mistakes such as referring to Jim Thompson as John Thompson Couldn t get any of the thousands of people knowledgeable about the history of the paperback to read the manuscript

Neat pictures from old paperbacks I would love to have some of thee blown up and hanging in my library I don t have a library, I have a book shelf, but one day.
